Rock ends marks, casting over rocks to more rocks, reefs at range with clip down pulley rigs, this is THE rod for the rough stuff. Life can be tough on the beach and few are tougher than Ruffstuff. Created for toughing it out on rocky shores this rod was designed to do the business in a harsh environment. Fully 14ft of manageable but awesome power, the firm tip will reveal tell tale movement, while when you need to bully a fish around a submerged boulder or a far flung reef it won’t let you down. Casting distance is probably less important than the rods ability to handle what it’s name suggests. But rest assured, when distance is required you will not be disappointed!

Seatrek is a 12ft, through action, three piece rod that will cast up to 6oz of lead with a multiplier reel. It is also highly compact – just 52in long when broken down. This rod comes complete with two very different tips, one fine for normal, clean beach fishing and a heavier, firmer tip for when the going gets tough and you need to maintain tight control of the lead while casting and retrieving. Fuji BNHG rings are standard and the reel is held in place by a moveable Coastal reel seat. This super light rod will become popular with anglers who need a lightweight rod with short breakdown length and two very different tips for optimum portability and practability.

At 5m in length – 16ft 5in in old money – the three section all new Pursuit is designed as a long rod for fishing the waters around our diverse coastline. Power is infinitely available and following the Penn tradition in surf rods, action is as always, ‘user friendly’. Bite detection has not been compromised and the three piece construction allows a flowing action and ease of transportation. Strap on a fixed-spool or multiplier reel and let rip. You will not be disappointed. With the moveable Coastal reel seat use it high with a fixed-spool or slide her down and use a low multiplier. Either reel in either position works. The Pursuit has a full compliment of Fuji Alconite guides, ideally suited to a rod that will see use with both multipliers and fixed-spool reels.

While at 18ft our latest PowerStix may seem a little scary, it will only take a cast or two to become a believer! Quite frankly even our testers were a little taken aback the first time they assembled the prototype. And it was an idea and design requested by anglers. But after giving it a thorough going over on the beach the first report was highly complimentary. One thing testers also commented on was accuracy, an important aspect of placing the baited rig to the right spot. And lastly, they also said the now fashionable long continental style rigs work brilliantly with this rod. Above the butt cap is a comfortable EVA grip while the next 36in of the butt has a special surface finish, move the reel fitting anywhere on this finish then simply tighten the two end screws to lock the seat in place. It’s as easy as that!

The 15ft 3 piece surf rod will handle 4oz to 6oz leads with ease. With a manageable through action and additional but manageable length it will launch baited rigs without elaborate wind ups, just lay it on the ground and let the rod do the work. Rung to cater for both fixed-spool and multiplier reels, it is aimed at anglers who want to enjoy a days fishing without complication. And it works!

At 13ft our first three piece rod in this range took the original and highly successful Extreme Voyager as its role model. A foot longer, this PowerStix model is a little more forgiving and again, is intended for use with either a fixed-spool or multiplier reels. At 13ft it will more suit anglers who want to retain the more conventional length rod but with the ease of casting inherent in a through action rod.
