Respect Alcohol, Respect Yourself!

For most adults, it’s fine to enjoy a drink. At the same time, we all need to look after our health and well-being.
The Scottish Government advises that men drink no more than three to four units a day and women no more than two to three. Consistently drinking four or more units for men, and three or more for women, isn’t advisable because of the progressive health risks it carries.
The alcohol in your drink is absorbed into your body through the stomach and small intestine. Food slows down the rate of absorption – that’s why alcohol affects you more quickly on an empty stomach.
Your body’s ability to process alcohol depends on various things, like your age, weight and sex. Your body breaks down alcohol at a rate of about one unit per hour – and no, there’s no way you can speed this up!

At Lomond Stores we take our responsibility as an off-licence very seriously and enforce the national “Challenge 25″ policy. The “Challenge 25” initiative encourages retailers and licences to seek proof of age from anybody who appears to be under the age of 25. The scheme was introduced because it was recognised that it can be very difficult to assess the age of a young person and to identify accurately whether someone is 17, 18, 19 or 20 but is usually easier to determine whether someone is 25. If we suspect a young person is under 25 years old, then identification is requested. If the person does not have the relevant identification e.g. passport or photo driving card, they will not be served alcohol. Challenge 25 protects young people by ensuring that only those over 18 can buy alcohol and we ask that everyone asked for identification will understand that it is in everyone’s interests that only legitimate purchasers are served and co-operate fully with the scheme.
